Our new member of Water World Swim coaching team in Chile is Mr. Virgilio Ruilova. Virgil is a man in his late sixties, that have been atracted to the Pacific Ocean since he was a young boy. When he was in his twenties, he adventured by sailing solo from the Port of Valparaiso to the Chilean island Robinson Crusoe (situated more than 680 kilometers or 500 miles west of the Chilean Coast) Soon after he was atracted by the sport of Triathlon, and started to compete in many of these events, becoming the National Senior Champion Triathlete. After holding this title for many years, he became aware that open water swimming, besides of being more challenging, he developed passion for this sport.
After many hours of training he joined the school of one of the most well known open swim coaches in the world, Chilean coach Victor “Tiburon” Contreras, who guided trained Virgilio to cross on of the most challenging waters in the South of Chile, near the Patagonia., The Canal Chacao. Virgilio succeded this swim being 62 years. Also by crossing the Straits of Magellan in March 2009, being 69 years old. Having these two records making him to be added at the Guinnes World book of records.
He has become to be one of the National and South American champions on his age group. Virgilio now is an experts in crossing the waters of the Port of Valparaiso, Viña del Mar and other ports in Chile.
