2014 Centurions: An open letter

 October 1, 2014

Dear Centurions swimmers, friends, and family,

Some of you have reached out to us with your concern about the swimmer who was receiving medical assistance at the finish line of our Centurions race on Saturday. We share your concern and would like to share with you what we know at this point.

An elite swimmer suffered a medical emergency just before the finish line and was administered immediate first aid on the beach. Emergency responders from the San Francisco police and fire departments were summoned, and the victim was transported while being tended to by fire department medical personnel.

We have been informed that the swimmer passed away on the way to the hospital. The precise cause of death is unknown at this time.

The victim's personal information is being withheld at the request of the family and friends, many of whom were participants or spectators on Saturday and have just returned to their hometown.

We have been in contact with them and expect to have a future event to honor this swimmer's memory. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the swimmer’s family, and we wish them peace in this difficult time.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact us. Any condolences can be passed on to the family.

Sincerely, the Water World Swim family
