Staying at the Marriott

This trip takes place at the Marriott Hotel complex, which is open to golf, bike, run, hike, and has beautiful swimming pools. The pool and pool bar and restaurant are open from early morning until late at night.  Each person must reserve their own room.

Costa Rica may only contain 0.1% of the world's landmass, but it's home to 5% of the world's biodiversity! When you're not swimming, you'll see monkeys, famous red-eyed tree frogs, endemic stunning butterflies, and more.

Tropical year round, Costa Rica has beautiful warm water that is begging you to dive in!

Temperatures
Water temperatures are tropical and glorious - leave the wetsuit at home!

Currency and Language
The currency in Costa Rica is the Costa Rican colón. The majority of people in tourist offices and hotels speak English, but Coach Pedro and Roman Urbina can help navigate Spanish.

Swimming Distances
Swim distances will range from approximately 1k to 3k. Competition on the last day will be timed and there will be medals, but swimmers are welcome to swim at their own pace.

Group Size 
Water World Swim is committed to minimizing our impact on wildlife and the environment. We have small groups, a maximum of 30 people with at least two certified, experienced open water swim coaches, two local swim guides, and local boat pilots that practice responsible tourism. The swim groups are organized based on speed and ability.

Essential Equipment
In addition to normal daily clothes you will need to bring the following:

  • Swimsuit (2)              
  • Walking shoes
  • Swimming goggles (2) *             
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Towel                                           
  • Sun Hat and Sunglasses
  • Waterproof sun block                 
  • Small backpack
  • Water bottle
  • Aqua shoes/sandals/flip flops

 Please note that Water World Swim will supply swim caps.

*Try to bring at least 1 clear lens and 1 tinted lens for different light conditions. We recommend one clear goggle, one smoke, and one blue or yellow. Goggles are light, and you can never bring too many back-ups of your favorite pair.

Optional Equipment
These items are optional. However, we do recommend that you bring them to give you more comfort options:

  • Wetsuit
  • Swim aids as zoomers or fins
  • Snorkel and mask
  • Rash vest to protect you from the sun.
  • Body Glide
  • Neoprene cap, if your head gets cold easily

Walking Conditions
Most walks will be on recognized paths and tracks. Some walks may be over trails, or uneven terrain.

Day 1 - May 2
Everyone arrives to San Jose Airport in Costa Rica, and transfers overnight to Los Suenos resort.

Day 2 - May 3

We will have a meet and greet over breakfast for all swimmers and brief you about the trip. Then we will head to Punta Leona and Playa Blanca, where we will have a 1-2 hour clinic and then lunch. After lunch, you’ll take the Crocodile Tour at the Tarcoles River before heading back to Los Suenos for dinner and a relaxing sunset.

Day 3 - May 4

We’ll do a morning swim clinic at Agujas Beach, swimming about 2.5k from Agujas to Punta Leona, supported by safety kayaks. After lunch at the beach, swimmers can opt in to a jungle canopy tour and then have a sunset toast at the beautiful Villa Caleta Hotel.

Day 4 – May 5

We will take a morning trip to Manual Antonio, one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful National Parks, to see monkeys! We’ll have a clinic at the beach and have lunch in Quepos.

Day 5 - May 6
Get ready to compete! Today we will be racing for medals. Swimmers are more than welcome to be in it to win it, or swim at your own pace. Farewell dinner and awards ceremony!

Day 6 – May 7 Thanks for swimming with Water World Swim
We part ways, filled with memories! Thanks for joining us! We will transfer you to the airport.
