Expired Alcatraz Swim with the Centurions 2019
- August 24, 2019
6:30 am - 11:00 am
THIS DATE IS SUBJECT TO COAST GUARD CONFIRMATION
This means this is the date we are planning on, but the Coast Guard still needs to confirm it before it's set in stone. The Coast Guard is a busy place, and it can sometimes be months before they give us approval. So how often do they not approve it? Very rarely, but if you need to book travel or otherwise need absolute certainty, you might want to wait. Just know the the swim might fill up and we don't hold spots!
AUGUST 24, 2019 - 17TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT
300 swimmers will start the race at Alcatraz and finish at Aquatic Park
A 1.25 mile swim from Alcatraz to Aquatic Park with the Centurions - elite swimmers who have made the crossing more than 100 times. Team registration available!
Curious about this race? Read more about it here!
Registered swimmers will receive an email 1-2 weeks prior to race day confirming conditions, temperatures, times, locations, parking options, etc. Passenger space, if available, will be made available for registration and announced in that email as well. When the information email has gone out, a link will be posted here.
June 11, 1962, Frank Morris and John and Clarence Anglin chipped through their cement cell walls, squeezed through a ventilation shaft to get to the roof, climbed down a drain pipe, scaled a 15-foot fence, and entered the frigid waters of San Francisco Bay. They disappeared into the night, wearing only the meager life preservers they made from stolen rain coats, and were never found, seen, or heard from again.
39 years later, on June 11, 2001, Pedro Ordenes and Gary Emich became the first swimmers to successfully “Escape from Alcatraz” 100 times! Since then, becoming a member of the elite “Alcatraz 100 Club” has become THE ambition for many open water swimmers. On September 30th, you’ll have the chance to reach your own goals and share the waters with the experts of the Bay, the Centurions.
You don't need to be a Centurion yourself - in fact, this is a great race opportunity for first-time Alcatraz swimmers with adequate training! This swim is not for novices. This event is for experienced open-water swimmers only. You should be able to swim one mile comfortably in a pool in under 40 minutes. If you need advice, support, and coaching for this swim, Water World Swim can help.
Your registration is non-refundable. Please review our refund and rollover policies before registering.
