Our Cuban Open Water Swimming Adventure

Twenty-two Water World Swim members spent ten days swimming the warm, turquoise waters around Cuba’s western coast — and came home with stories they will tell for years.

Cuba is not a typical open water destination, which is precisely what makes it special. The water is warm (26–29°C in March), the marine life is extraordinary, and the combination of coastal communities, historic architecture, and unspoiled seascapes creates a backdrop unlike anywhere else our swimmers have competed.

The Swims

The programme included a series of point-to-point swims along the northern coast, ranging from 3 km to 8 km per day. A support boat accompanied every swim, and local guides provided safety cover and navigational expertise. The longest single-day effort — 8 km along a stretch of uninhabited coastline — was completed by all 22 participants, a remarkable group achievement.

Beyond the Water

Days off the water were spent exploring Havana, visiting local swimming clubs, and participating in a cultural exchange programme with Cuban swimmers and coaches. The interaction with local athletes was one of the most memorable aspects of the trip for many participants.

2026 Cuba Programme

Based on overwhelming demand from participants, we are planning a 2026 Cuba programme. The format will be similar, with a 12-day itinerary and an expanded daily swimming programme. Early expressions of interest are being taken now — contact us to register your interest.
