Training Requirements
This is an advanced event. Participants must demonstrate they can complete 10 km in open water within the cut-off time. We strongly recommend a history of prior open water events, including at least one Alcatraz Crossing. Tidal planning is critical — our event schedule is designed around optimal current windows.
The Bay’s Science & History
The course passes several historically significant areas of the Bay, including Angel Island, Treasure Island, and the anchorage zones used by ships during the Gold Rush. Our pre-event briefings include a snapshot of Bay science — salinity gradients, tidal patterns, and marine wildlife you may encounter during your crossing.
